In 1659, Louis XIV stayed in this house for 40 days. As a young king, he came to Saint-Jean-de-Luz to sign the Treaty of the Pyrenees formalizing a peace concluded between the Spanish crown and France at the end of the Franco-Spanish War. The treaty also provided for the young king’s marriage to Infanta Maria Theresa of Austria, daughter of the King of Spain.
